Georgia State Flag Details

Get the perfect addition to your business or home with a Georgia flag for sale. The 3x5 size is perfect for a variety of indoor and outdoor locations. The outdoor weather won’t ruin the flag due to the durable materials and print. The state of Georgia flag is made from an outdoor-tested polyester, which is lightweight, knitted, and tear-resistant so the wind, rain, and other elements don’t rip the fabric. We recreate the graphics using a modern dye sublimation method, which ingrains the ink into the fabric to prevent it from peeling off the material. We print the flag on one side and the reverse image bleeds through to the other side, allowing the design to be visible from both sides while also saving you printing costs. Setup your flag on a flagpole by adding a handheld pole or wall-mounted pole set to your order. The grommet finishing allows you to simply assemble the flag on the pole kits. Let everyone know you’re proud of your home state with these GA flags.

Georgia Flag History

The Old Georgia State Flags

Georgia has had several flag designs before the current one. The first state flag was established in 1879 to commemorate the Confederate Army. The old Georgia flag included red and white stripes and a blue left field, which were used in the first flag of the Confederacy. Over the years, the blue section was changed to include the state’s coat of arms, the coat of arms with a golden outline, and then the state seal.

A second flag was created in the 1950s to incorporate the Confederate battle flag. This version was first used in 1956 and met with controversy over the years. It was claimed that it was to celebrate the Confederate Army’s centennial, but many saw it as a way of celebrating segregation. Another criticism was that it showed allegiance to the Confederacy rather than the United States. In 2001, a new flag was designed that showed the previous Georgia state flags on the bottom and the state seal on top. The new GA state flag, however, was not well liked for aesthetic purposes, so it was short lived. Because of its unpopularity, a new flag was created in 2003.

Today’s Flag

The current design is reminiscent of the first flag of the state with red and white stripes and a blue field in the top left corner with the coat of arms. It was seen as a compromise between the previous design of the ‘50s by including the Stars and Bars symbolism of the Confederacy, but not the battle flag. The 2003 design was voted as the flag of Georgia and has been the design ever since.

Georgia Flag Meaning

Coat of Arms: The arch in the coat of arms represents the Constitution, with the pillars standing for the three branches of government. The state’s motto, “Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation” covers the pillars. The man underneath the arch is a soldier from the Revolutionary War. He has a sword to show the willingness to defend the Constitution. The United States motto, “In God We Trust” is below the arms.

Stars: The 13 white stars circling around the coat of arms refers to Georgia being one of the original 13 colonies.

Blue, Red, and White: The colors and how they are laid out is a callback to the First National Flag of the Confederacy, which the inspiration for the first Georgia state flag.
