USA Flag Details

Let everyone see your patriotism during national holidays or all year round by displaying 3x5 American flags. These flags are designed to last due to their durable fabric and state-of-the-art printing process. The flag is made from knitted polyester, which is resistant to tearing and fraying, making it perfect for indoor and outdoor use. For the printed design, we use a modern dye sublimation process, which results in striking colors that will not scratch or peel off the fabric. These features allow these United States flags to be displayed in all kinds of weather. The design is printed on one side and the reverse image bleeds through to the other, allowing the stars and stripes to be visible from both sides. Add on either a handheld flagpole or a mounted flagpole for assembling your flag without any hassle. These American flags for sale are the perfect addition to the home, office, or storefront.

United States Flag History

When America was a British colony, a Grand Union Flag or the “Continental Colors” was used. This had 13 red and white stripes but has the British Union Jack in the top left corner. When the US declared independence in 1776, Continental Congress passed a resolution that a new national flag be introduced a year later. The resolution stated that the flag should have thirteen red and white stripes and 13 stars in a blue field. It is believed Francis Hopkinson designed an early version of the flag used by the Navy, but the story of how and who created the first national flag is debated. Either way, the flag was soon altered to include more stars by 1795 to represent new states. Since the US flag was first created, it has been modified 26 times! The current version is the modification that has been used the longest. The final design that’s still in use today was done in 1960 when Hawaii joined the US as an official state.

American Flag Meaning and Colors

The red, white, and blue colors of the American flag originally didn’t have a meaning, so there are several interpretations. Charles Thomson came up with some meanings when he proposed a U.S. seal in 1782.

Red: Thomson believed that the red in the United States flag symbolized hardiness and valor.

White: Thomson cited white in the US flag as representing purity and innocence.

Blue: Finally, Thomson said that the blue signified vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

Stripes: The 13 alternating white and red stripes represent the original 13 colonies of the United States.

Stars: Each star represents a state in the union. There are currently 50 states, so there are 50 stars in the top left corner.
