Louisiana State Flag Details
Show passersby and neighbors that you love your state with a Louisiana flag for sale. Display these flags wherever you want due to the high-quality print and material. We use a modern dye sublimation printing process, which infuses the ink directly into the fabric. This will prevent the colors from peeling off, making it perfect for all weather conditions. The flag is made from an outdoor-tested polyester fabric, which is lightweight and tear-resistant to be just as durable as the print. The flag design is printed on one side of the material and the mirror image bleeds through to the other side, increasing visibility while saving you printing costs. If you need hardware to setup your state flag, add on either a handheld pole set or a wall-mounted pole kit to your purchase. The grommet finishing on the sides allows you to easily assemble the flag on the hardware. Our LA flags spread state pride and are great for a variety of locations, both indoors and outdoors.

Louisiana State Flag History
The pelican is a state symbol that appeared on the state seal by 1812. It wasn’t, however, until 100 years later that a Louisiana flag with the pelican was adopted to celebrate the state’s centennial. Before that, there was a LA state flag used during the Civil War, which didn’t include the state seal imagery. The initial design was red, white, and blue stripes with a yellow star in a red field in the upper left corner. This flag stopped being used after the Civil War.
While the new flag was adopted in 1912, there were no specifications about the design of the pelican, leading to several versions of the state flag of Louisiana. Because of the inconsistencies, a law for modifications to the flag was made in 2006 to specify that the pelican should have three drops of blood. This design of the pelican flag was officially standardized in 2010.
Louisiana Flag Meaning
The lore of pelicans is that they feed their own blood to their chicks when no other food is available. This image became a popular religious symbol, resulting in Governor William C.C. Claiborne using a pelican for the Orleans territory seal, eventually being associated as a Louisiana state symbol. The design of the pelican in the Louisiana state flag also reflects a fleur-de-lis, which is another state symbol. Below the pelican seal is the state motto, “Union, Justice, Confidence.”
