Maine State Flag Details
Showcase your love for your state in front of your home or business with a Maine flag for sale. Set up these flags indoors and/or outdoors due to the durable polyester fabric and long-lasting print. The polyester used for the flag is a tear-resistant, outdoor-tested fabric that is lightweight and knitted to prevent the material from getting ruined. We create the graphics using a modern dye sublimation process, which infuses the ink directly into the fabric, which keeps it from scratching or peeling off. The design is printed on one side of the material and the reverse image bleeds to the other side, the common practice for state and country flags. This allows the flag design to be visible from all directions. If you need hardware for setting up your flag, choose between a handheld and wall-mounted pole kit. The handheld is for parade or event use while the wall-mounted is for long-term display on a flat surface. Get the perfect addition to your front porch, office, or event with these state of Maine flags.

Maine Flag History
The original Maine state flag was created in 1901. It had a buff background, a blue star on the left, and a tree in the middle. The pine tree was a symbol of freedom associated with Maine and New England. Trees were also important to the state’s economy because of shipbuilding. The blue star was meant to represent the North Star, because Maine was the state farthest north. The tree symbol continues to be used in the modern state flag of Maine design and the state’s Merchant and Marine flag. Maine’s modern flag design was created in 1909 to instead incorporate the state’s coat of arms, motto, and a blue background. This was modeled off flags Maine used in the Civil War. It was originally meant to have a yellow silk fringe and blue and white cord, but these are rarely manufactured and used.
Flag of Maine Meaning
Coat of Arms: Inside the shield of the Maine flag is a moose sitting under a pine tree. The moose is the state animal of Maine and pine tree (specifically the eastern white pine) is the state tree. Outside of the shield is a farmer and sailor on each side. These represent land and sea.
North Star: The North Star and state motto included on the Maine state flag are part of the coat of arms. It’s a symbol of Maine because, at the time, Maine was the most northern state of the Union. Below the star is the state motto: “Dirigo”, which is Latin for “I direct.” This referred to Maine once holding their elections in September, prior to other states.
