The fabric is an outdoor-tested polyester material, which is knitted, lightweight, and tear-resistant to stand up against the elements. The graphics are printed using a modern dye sublimation technique, which results in striking colors that will not scratch or peel off. The artwork is printed on one side of the fabric and the mirror image bleeds through to the other side. Our ink is infused into the fabric rather than printed on the surface for a long print life. State of MI Flag History
Michigan has the third state flag. The current design was adopted in 1911. It is similar to the previous flags used by the state because former designs included the coat of arms. Michigan’s coat of arms was created in 1835 and the first state flag was created not long after. The first flag included a portrait of Governor Stevens T. Mason on one side and the state’s emblem on the other. The first MI flag has since been lost and no images exist. A second design was created in 1865 with the state’s coat of arms on one side and the country’s coat of arms on the opposite side. There have been some discussions on changing the Michigan state flag’s current design, but so far, they have been unsuccessful.
Michigan Flag Meaning
Blue: The background color was first used for the Brady Guards after receiving it from Governor Mason. Blue was a popular color for military flags of the time. The color was incorporated into the 1865 design of the Michigan state flag and kept for the 1911 redesign of the flag.
Coat of Arms: Latin mottos “E pluribus unum”, “Tuebor”, and “Si quaeris peninsulum amoenam circumspace” are featured on the state of Michigan flag. They translate to “Out of many, one” (a motto for the US), “I will defend”, and “If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look at you”. The latter is the official state motto. The elk and moose on the sides came from the coat of arms of the Hudson Bay Company while the bald eagle on the top represents the United States. The design in the middle features a man on a peninsula with a sun. It is meant to stand for peace while his gun refers to the fight for the state during frontier times.
