England Flags Details

Share your love for your country with your friends and neighbors by installing English flags by your house or business. These flags were made to be displayed indoors and outdoors due to their outdoor tested material and printing. The flag is made from knitted polyester fabric, which is tear-resistant to prevent the material from ripping in different weather conditions. The cross design is recreated using a modern printing process called dye sublimation. This printing method ingrains the ink into the fabric so not only do the colors look amazing, but they also won’t peel or rip from the material. Get the flag alone or add on hardware to your order for assembly. Choose between a handheld flag pole or a mounted pole set to setup your flag in different locations. Grommets are finished on the side of the flag for easily attaching the flag to a pole set. Add a patriotic flair to your home or storefront using an England flag for sale.

England Flag History

The origin of the English flag dates to the Late Middle Ages. The flag design is taken from Saint George’s Cross. It is believed that King Richard the Lionheart began using the red cross flag at some point during the Crusades. Red crosses started being used by English soldiers as a distinguishing mark, thus making the Cross of St. George a nationally recognized symbol. The use of the flag gained more and more prominence over the years with George becoming the patron saint of England. Even during the English Reformation in the 16th century, England flags were kept despite other religious flags being abolished. When the Union Flag was designed to represent the whole United Kingdom in 1606, the red cross was incorporated into the design to signify England. The City of London flag also takes from the Saint George’s Cross flag, except a red sword is in the top left corner. The British Royal Navy also uses a form of the St. George flag, known as the White Ensign. This flag’s alteration has the Union Flag in the top left corner of the cross.

England Flag Meaning

Red Cross: Saint George’s Cross became associated with Saint George after the crusades. Saint George became a warrior saint during the Third Crusade, but the red cross was associated with the Knights Templar during the Second Crusade. Red and white crosses were chosen to differentiate the England and French soldiers with the red-on-white cross eventually being associated with crusaders. Over time, the cross became associated with Saint George and the Crusades, making it a national symbol.
