Uruguay Flags Details

This Uruguay flag for sale is the perfect thing to display in your home, office, or on your porch. The 3x5 size of these flags is easy to spot from a distance and is designed for indoor and outdoor setup. Our knitted polyester material is used to create the flag. Because of the tear-resistance of our outdoor-tested polyester, the weather will not ruin the fabric. This allows you to display the flag in rain, wind, heat, and other elements while still guaranteeing a long flag life. The print is just as durable as the material. We use a state-of-the-art dye sublimation technique, which ingrains the ink into the fabric rather than on top of the material. Because the ink is ingrained, the print will not scratch or peel off, even in outdoor weather conditions. Easily setup your flag by adding a handheld or mounted pole set to your order. These flags are the ideal addition to a variety of locations to spread your love for your country or heritage.

Flag of Uruguay History

The first time the Uruguay flag was approved was in 1828. Before the current design, other flags were used to represent the country. Blue and white were previously used for other historical flags, but the 1828 design was quite different from the other flags due to the number of stripes and the sun emblem. Before the 1828 flag, Uruguay’s flags typically had three stripes of varying colors. The first modern design used in 1828 had 19 alternating stripes, but this was limited to nine stripes in 1830. The light blue stripes were originally meant to signify the nine divided areas of the country, but, instead, both the white and blue stripes represented the different areas by 1830. The sun emblem has also been revised since the flag’s original creation. In 1852, the sun was altered to sixteen rays with eight being isosceles triangles and the other eight being flames. Before 1852, the sun was all the same color, and the shape of the rays were straighter.

Uruguay Flag Meaning and Colors

Blue: The light blue lines originally represented the nine divided sections of Uruguay, but it was changed to have both the blue and white stripes symbolize the nine departments in 1830. The blue color was taken from the previous flag of Uruguay, the flag of the Provincias Unidas del RĂo de la Plata, used from 1813 to 1816.

White: Like the blue stripes, the white stripes stand for the nine divisions of Uruguay when combined with the blue stripes. The white color was also used in the Provincias Unidas del Río de la Plata flag previously used for Uruguay. The alternating blue and white stripes were inspired by the American flag’s red and white stripes, which represent the original 13 colonies.

Sun: The sun on the Uruguay flags is called the Sun of May. It is a symbol for the May Revolution in 1810, because when Uruguay was gaining independence from Spain the skies went from cloudy to sunny. It was also taken from Inti, the Incan God of the Sun. It represents independence, as well as unity, truth, and clarity.
