Idaho State Flag Details

Celebrate your home state with these Idaho flags for sale. These 3x5 flags are the perfect addition to homes and businesses. The material is designed to withstand all kinds of indoor and outdoor conditions. The state flag of Idaho is made from outdoor polyester fabric, which is a lightweight, knitted material that is resistant to tearing so the wind, rain, snow, and heat will not ruin the flag. We also print on the flag using a modern dye sublimation technique, which prevents the print from scratching and peeling off because the ink is infused into the fabric. We print the design on one side of the material and the reverse image bleeds through to the other side, which is the common practice for state flags. Setup the flag with ease by adding either a wall mounted, or hand-held pole set to your order. The wall mounted kit is for securing the flag on a flat surface, such as a building side while the hand-held is great for parade use. Place Idaho’s state flag in front of your home, business, or event to show state pride.

Idaho Flag History

The design of the Idaho state flag includes the state seal. The seal was adopted in 1863, before Idaho was officially a state. Idaho’s seal was created by Emma Edwards Green, the only woman to create a state seal. Idaho became a state in 1890 and the flag was established in 1907. The seal was also alternated in 1891, which replaced a moon with the sun and added a miner rather than the word “Peace.” Originally, the flag of Idaho was just blue with the name of the state. The brigadier general of the National Guard decided to add the state seal to the flag, making it like the format of other state flags. The official description also includes a gold fringe around the ID flag, though this isn’t always used. This new design, however, was not made legal until 1927 and a standard pattern for the seal was established in 1957.

Idaho State Flag Meaning

Seal: The miner and the woman stand for equality, liberty, and justice. The rest of the seal refers to Idaho’s natural resources, mines (the miner), forests (the pine tree), farmland (the plow, grain, and mock orange), and wildlife (the elk’s head). The star on the border of the seal represents the light of Idaho among the other states. The Latin motto “Esto perpetua” means “Let it be perpetual” or “It is forever.” The river running through the seal is the Snake or Shoeshone River.

Blue: The ID state flag was originally blue when first created. When it conformed to the format of other state flags, it included the regimental blue color of the Union Army.
