Set up a high-quality United Kingdom flag in front of your store, home, or building with a flag from Vispronet®. Our flags are made to last due to the durable material and print. The flag is made from knitted, outdoor-tested polyester, which is resistant to tearing and fraying from the elements. We print the UK flag design on one side of the material, and it bleeds through to the other side, saving on printing costs. We use a state-of-the-art dye sublimation printing method, which ingrains the ink into the fabric so that it withstands all kinds of weather. The print also will not scratch or peel off the material. If you need hardware to display your flag, add on either a handheld or mounted pole set to your order. The grommets on the side of the flag are for easily connecting the flag to the pole set. United Kingdom Flag History
The Union Jack flag design comes from the Act of Union 1801 between the kingdoms of Great Britain and Ireland. The flag combines symbols of England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland to signify the union. At the time, Wales was still part of the Kingdom of England, so the inclusion of British symbols also represented Wales. Before this modern design was created, there was a previous flag that represented the United Kingdom, but it didn’t include the saltire of St. Patrick for Ireland. The previous Great Britain flag was established in 1606 and the modern flag design was created in 1801 by an Order in Council. The UK flag continues to have the saltire for Ireland, even though Ireland has not been part of the United Kingdom since 1921. The origin of the term “Union Jack” is debatable, with possible theories about it referring to the “jack-ets” worn by soldiers, King James I who created the first union, or from the proclamation that the flag would be used as a “jack” in the Royal Navy.
UK Flag Meaning
St. George’s Cross: This is the main red cross on the flag. St. George was the patron saint of England. This is meant to represent England and Wales, which are part of the United Kingdom.
Saltire of St. Andrew: This refers to the white cross and blue background of the Great Britain flag. St. Andrew was the patron saint of Scotland and thus represents Scotland in the UK.
Saltire of St. Patrick: This is the diagonal red cross on the flag. St. Patrick was the patron saint of Ireland, and it signifies Ireland being part of the United Kingdom when the flag was created. The cross remains, even though Ireland is no longer part of the UK.
